We may only be in March, but that doesn’t mean summer can’t come a little early.
Weezer surprised fans on Wednesday night by premiering “Feels Like Summer,” the first single from their upcoming 11th studio album. The still-untitled album will follow the alternative rock heroes’ stellar 10th album, 2016’s Weezer (White Album).
The video came accompanied with a timely message from the band:
“We decided to skip spring entirely and go straight to summer.”
The song itself is a bit of a departure from the sound of Weezer (White Album), with electronic drums, spacey synth loops, and frontman Rivers Cuomo’s voice on an echo effect. If we’re being honest, it’s much more akin to twenty one pilots than the band’s recent rediscovered love of loud guitars and soaring solos. Still, the catchiness of the rhythm is nearly-impossible to ignore.
Weezer will hit the road on St. Patrick’s Day for a U.S./Europe tour throughout the year, including festival gigs at Boston Calling and Firefly Music Festival. What do you think of the new song? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to stick with The Young Folks for more music news.
