And the “Emoticons” video makes five! Liverpudlian indie band The Wombats are keeping the momentum for their third album Glitterbug with another music video. “Emoticons” serves as Glitterbug’s opening track, exploring a concept well-trodden by the boys: an honest look at a less-than-idyllic relationship. It’s all about the ways people use communication to cover deeper problems, and how smoothing things over can make things worse in the long run.
“Emoticons” goes in a different direction, visuals-wise, than the rest of the videos to come from Glitterbug thus far. Rather than a story video with the band as more of a background feature or afterthought like “Give Me a Try” or “Be Your Shadow,” “Emoticons” is a straight performance video. The live footage comes from their concert at Hordern Pavilion in Sydney.
