Welcome back to New(ish) Music Tuesdays, our regular feature in which the Young Folks writing staff recommends their current favorite songs. This week is a little shorter than usual, but that will leave you more time with the latest selections, which includes surf rock, uplifting EDM, and a bunch of other cool stuff. Let’s dig in!

La Luz – “Black Hole, Weirdo Shrine”
Seattle’s La Luz have a sound that’s based in surf rock, with a bit of psychedelia, dream pop, and garage blues thrown in for good measure. The hazy “Black Hole, Weirdo Shrine,” taken from their new Ty Segall-produced album Weirdo Shrine, is a perfect introduction to their sound. The song has heavy, galloping instrumentation paired with singer Shana Cleveland’s ethereal vocals. If you’re into stuff like Best Coast, La Luz is definitely a band that would be worth checking out.

The Mowgli’s – “Summertime”
The Mowgli’s new music is fun, upbeat. Their track “Summertime” brings that essence of summer fun. The band makes feel-good music that you can jam to anytime, anywhere. My favorite part of the track is actually when the beat changes in the bridge. The tempo changes and it adds a nice touch to the track.
Oh, I can’t get you off of my mind
And I think that it’s alright
Cause looking back
I’m falling in love with you every single night
The track reminds us that it is okay to let go and fall in love, even though it may seem scary. The track brings back the ideas of how contagious love is, especially in the very beginning of a relationship. There is that high and joyous feeling you get when you are in love, and that is exactly how I feel like when I listen to “Summertime.” I am super stoked to see the Mowgli’s perform this track live, as it is the perfect song to dance and sing along to.

Paul Rey- “Good as Hell”
I can confidently say that this song and this artist is about to blow up. It’s one final feel-good summer track before we say hello to September. The twenty-three-year-old from Sweden has been doing music for a while in Sweden, but his six-song EP, released on Friday, has the ability to make him a household name.
The song is about taking control of your happiness, and the beat is sure to put you in a good mood. “Good as Hell” reminds me of an Avicii track, but with Paul Rey’s raspy pop voice and the fact that he isn’t a DJ, there is still plenty of room for him on the radio.
Majical Cloudz- “Silver Car Crash”

The song was named after the Andy Warhol painting, “Silver Car Crash.” The band released on their Tumblr page that they love how Warhol paintings “combine two different preoccupations that are, in life, always mixing together.” They have tried to create the same double meaning in their song by combining emotions that are usually shown together in some form.
“And we will both die laughing, while I am holding on to you.”
