The eighth annual New York City Popfest is underway as it continues to bring to light indie bands to people all over the city. Bands from all over the world are invited to join in on this four day event, from May 28th to May 31st.
The fest will prove to be a great hit as there are over 25 bands coming to perform at this year’s event. Bands from New York to California and as far as Spain and Japan are all signed on to come perform. Having such a large selection, it’s only fair we go into detail about each one.
NEW YORK CITY-based bands:
Beverly- Drew Citron and Frankie Rose came together to make their debut LP “Careers” in July 2014 on Kanine Records, and were later joined by Jamie Ingalls (of Chairlift), Caitlin Frame (FRAME), and Scott Rosenthal (Class Actress/The Beets). With a band full of guitars, synths, drums, bass, and more, their pop/punk music is sure to excite.
The Chandler Estate- After breaking up The Secret History, The Chandler Estate formed in 2014, with Andrea Vaughn, Darren Amadio, Tod Karasik, Bryce Edwards, and Tara Needham. NYC Popfest will actually be their live debut.

CALIFORNIA-based bands:

Cold Beat- A post-punk band with Hannah Lew, Kyle King, Cody Blanchard, and Bianca Sparta. Their debut album, Over Me, debuted July of 2014.
CANADA-based bands:

The Holiday Crowd- Imran Haniff, Colin Bowers, Alex Roberts, and David George Barnes formed The Holiday Crowd in 2010 in Toronto, when Imran and Colin met in high school and the two decided to make a band with their two mutual friends.

SPAIN-based bands:

PAPA TOPO- Their single “Oso Panda” was released to the public and immediately sold out before the week was over.

UNITED KINGDOM-based bands:
The Catenary Wires- Moving out of London in 2014 with the idea to make a band, Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey decided to play a tunes on their daughter’s acoustic guitar and since then, have been able to play shows around the UK, Japan, Spain and the U.S. Their first album, Red Red Skies, will be released next month by Elefant Records.
The Darling Buds- Formed in 1986 by then-19 year old Andrea Lewis, with the band reforming in 2010 and then adding Chris McDonogh and Matt Gray in April of 2014.
SWEDEN-based bands:
Club 8- Johan Angergård and Karolina Komstedt came together in 1995 to make their first three songs and send them to their favorite record labels, eventually choosing Siesta after their “Me Too” release.
GERMANY-based bands:
Brideshead- Forming in spring of 1993 in Wiesbaden, Germany, the band still plays together and has a huge international audience thanks in part to their releases on German, Japanese and American labels.
