I have been a huge Jonas Brothers fan ever since they released hits such as “Year 3000” and “S.O.S.” So tonight was like a blast from the past, even though Joe and Kevin weren’t there.
The San Francisco concert took place at the Great American Music Hall, which is owned by Slim’s. I prefer Slim’s because of the surrounding area and the fact it is easier to get to. So when my friend and I walked from bart to the venue, we had a wake-up call as to what part of town we were in. Also, I know that parking in any city is going to be an issue, but for this venue it was especially hard. So just a heads-up if any of you will be going to the Great American Music Hall for future shows. But I will say that the interior of the building is beautiful. It was like I stepped into the ballroom of the Titanic. It was lovely.
When the doors opened late, I should have taken that as a sign of what was to come. The show was suppose to start at 8pm, but when it became 8:15pm, I started getting a little antsy. I understand that backstage was probably chaotic and who knows what issues were happening there. But when a show does not start until 8:30pm, that’s when the crowd gets a little irritated. Despite the delay, Nick Jonas did not have an opening band, surprisingly, so he began his set at 8:30. Not sure if the delay was on purpose since there was no opener, but I was just happy to finally get the night going.
Also, his girlfriend, Olivia Culpo, did wave to the crowd as she was standing at the side of the stage at the very beginning of the night. I’m happy to see that the couple is supporting of each other in their careers.
During his set, it was like he was re-introducing himself to his fans. He was edgier and had – dare I say – “swag.” Nick was no longer the innocent Jonas Brother who we all knew and grew up with. But I felt that this change was gradual and suited him. We knew he was producing solo material for a while. For example, his rendition of Demi Lovato’s song, “Here We Go Again,” that the two performed on her tour, was sexy, sultry, and a different sound from him than we are used to. Perhaps that was just a glimpse of the sound we were to expect from his current album.
He opened up his set with “Chains,” and that track got the crowd pumped (since the majority knew the words). Chains was the first single released from his new album, and you can already feel how edgy is. He said in multiple interviews that this album will get very personal and his lyrics say it all. During the night, he performed snippets of popular songs like “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley, and we even got to hear Nick’s “A Little Bit Longer.” He ended the night with his recently released single, “Jealous.”

Also, from the concerts that I have been to, there is always an encore. But unfortunately, Nick did not have one. In the end, I did not come home tired or with my ears ringing, which means that the concert could have gone on for so much longer. Since I saw him perform LIVE before, I know the potential he has to put on a great show. No, this was not a stadium or huge concert hall where he and his brothers used to perform; an hour show did not seem long enough! I wish we could have heard more of his new music instead of the few tracks he decided to play. I’m still happy I got to see him perform LIVE and I am very, very excited to get his new album, but I just wished the concert was longer and did not start way behind schedule. Overall, I loved all of his new songs and cannot wait for the album to drop on November 11.
