Music News: Angus and Julia Stone’s Self-Titled Album Drops on August 1st

Angus and JuliaIf you’re a fan of the alternative/indie genre you probably know about Angus and Julia Stone. The brother-sister duo broke out of the underground a few years back, making hits both together and apart. Their soft, alternating vocals paired with acoustic guitar, piano, harmonica, etc, make for a unique listening experience; one that is not easily forgotten.

Most notably, the duo released “Big Jet Plane,” a gentle and soothing lullaby from their second album, Down the Way. The album went multi-platinum and after the monstrous success, the siblings took some time apart, both releasing solo albums. The impact and success of the song and album never really subsided, keeping the pair close to many music-lovers’ hearts.

Enter Rick Rubin – the guy who’s produced records for all of the greats: from Jay Z to Johnny Cash. Rubin heard the duo’s song playing at a friend’s party and knew he had to get involved. After enjoying their individual time apart, the two had no intentions of getting back together. But, after hearing of Rubin’s interest, the band fiddled with the idea of writing and recording together again. It took a happy accident to get the duo back in the studio together: they were both billed to play at the same music festival and they took the stage together once more and shared a song. “It felt so magical…we decided the moment we walked off stage that we would make this record with Rick,” Julia stated for a press release.

Fast-forward to the present, Angus and Julia Stone have announced the August 1st release of their third, self-titled record debuting on American Recordings/Republic Records, produced by Rubin. The duo have released a new video for the first single off of the album titled, “A Heartbreak,” and are prepping to go on a North American Tour. With so much coming up for Angus and Julia Stone, some would say they’re back and better than ever.
