Last night, British pop group Little Mix released the music video for their newest single “Salute.” As I said in my album review for Salute, the lead/title track from the group’s sophomore effort is a fierce lady anthem with lyrics supporting the empowerment of all women. Its intense dance beat and military motif make a girl power playlist must, for sure.
The video features the girls dressed all in black, absolutely owning various abandoned settings. Their dancing is on point; their moves matching up perfectly with the intense beat. I’m loving the badassery and post-apocalyptic/underground crime vibes—I was reminded of Jay-Z’s, Rihanna’s, and Kanye’s “Run This Town” video more than a few times. The only thing I’m not totally in love with is the camera angles. The random close ups on their faces fading out to a blur and focusing back in made things look awkward and almost like a mistake.
