OK, I’ll be completely honest. The first time I heard this song I was like “what the…!? What is this!? This is not the Coldplay I remember“. I won’t deny it. I didn’t like it very much. However, my feelings changed once I listened to the song a few times afterwards. It’s not that bad once you get to know it. I always say what makes a great band is their capacity to explore and find new directions in their music. Looks like Coldplay is doing so.
Yesterday, the single “Midnight” was released in the band’s website thanks to a Twitter post. The song is slow, full with an electronica-vibe and the video is not bad either: the band walks through a forest in a night-vision stylish way. The video was directed by Mary Wigmore, an actress who also happens to be the godmother to Chris Martin’s daughter with Gwyneth Paltrow, Apple Martin.
It is yet unclear if this is a simple single release or if it’s part of an upcoming album in the works.We shall see soon enough. Coldplay’s last album was Mylo Xyloto and was released back in 2011. While we wait for more news, the band is scheduled to play at the iTunes Festival in Austin, Texas, next month.
