Nowadays, who hasn’t heard of David Guetta in the radio? You have probably heard Kid Cudi’s “Memories”, Akon’s “Sexy Bitch”, Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over” all three songs are part from his album ‘One Love’. Even songs performed by the Black Eyed Peas have been produced by him and made him a Grammy Award winner. This French DJ has taken the music genre of House to another level, being one of the first ever to play House music in mainstream American radio stations. I can recall from Ultra Music Festival this year when David Guetta was playing at Main Stage, he said how people around 5 years ago told him that he would never make it with House music in America, that if Americans didn’t like House before certainly they wouldn’t start liking it now, but he found the secret to success: doing club banging hits featuring mainstream artists from the American scene, often doing them between Hip-Hop artists, showing that he could cross the gap between genres and make music that everybody can love and dance to.
The first single released from ‘Nothing But The Beat’ was “Where Them Girls At” featuring Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj, giving us a taste of what the album will be: full of collaborations, dance beats, and every song is most likely to become a hit single. Why? Because David Guetta has the ability to make songs appealing to everyone and by working with some of music’s biggests artists such as: Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson, Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, Usher, Dev, Timbaland, Jessie J, Taio Cruz, Ludacris, will.i.am and fellow House music DJ Afrojack, the album will deliver.
‘Nothing But The Beat’ is an album that’s balanced out, you get hardcore beats in some songs, as well as some slower ones with a more R&B sound. While listening to it to review it, I didn’t even have to skip any songs, the album goes by smoothly. Even though some songs feel like they’re recycled beats, something we’ve heard before but its not like it becomes dull or anything, nothing at all. ‘Nothing But The Beat’ is still good and worth your bucks because all of the songs here will make it to the Top 40 eventually.
Some of my favorite songs from NBTB are “Titanium” feat Sia, “I Can Only Imagine” feat Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, “Sweat” ft Snoop Dogg, “Lunar” feat Afrojack and “Nothing Really Matters” feat will.i.am.
David Guetta isn’t going anywhere in the future, he’s going to keep making records that can be heard anywhere and by anyone, making songs that will be heard at the club as well as at the radio stations and “Nothing But The Beat” is Guetta’s pledge to America that as long as we keep listening, he’ll keep delivering.
