MTV debuted the music video for “Claudia Lewis” by M83 today. Directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, we see Lily Collins as a blue-haired teen girl with supernatural powers. It’s a typical boy-meets-girl story with The Bling Ring’s Israel Broussard playing the boy. Collins also interacts with a heartbroken classmate played by Awkward.’s Ashley Rickards.
M83’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is one of my favorite albums… ever. I was happy to see a video for “Claudia Lewis,” definitely a favorite track of mine. Despite the talent behind the video, I found it be a little unimpressive. The familiar narrative and simple direction leave a lot to be desired. Maybe it’s because I love this song so much that I wanted something truly visually spectacular with a moving narrative. Although, I do appreciate the nostalgic vibe the video gives off.
