Sometimes artists’ best songs don’t become singles, and you sit there and wonder, “Why isn’t this a chart-topping hit or at least on the radio?!” So, with that notion, I wanted to shed some light on some non-single-but-totally-dope songs from some of your favorite artists:
8. “Like That” –JoJo
When The High Road came out, I was obsessed with this song. And whenever it comes on my JoJo Radio on Pandora, I still jam to it. JoJo’s soft tone and producer Ryan Leslie‘s dreamy harp-like track makes for a sweet, sexy and super catchy R&B ode.
7. “Get Naked (I Got A Plan”) –Britney Spears

Probably one the dopest songs on Brit’s underrated Blackout album, “Get Naked,” is also another song I still love to get down to. With stunning production from Danja–who also produced half the album–he served up an excellent track that probably should have hit the airwaves.
6. “So Simple” –Alicia Keys

One of my favorite songs from Keys’ sophomore album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, “So Simple” was really a hidden little treasure in the set. Although this never became a single, Alicia performed it live when she toured for this album.
5. “Movies” –Ashanti

This song is dope. That is all.
4. “(Another Song) All Over Again” –Justin Timberlake
A beautiful sad song full of regret, JT poured his heart out on this track, and is just one of the great songs on the iconic Futuresex/Lovesounds.
3. “Right Now” –Danity Kane
I’ve mentioned this song before, and now it’s on a brand new list. Birthed from Danity Kane’s self-titled album, “Right Now” demonstrated one of Timbaland‘s hottest, sultry tracks. And the arrangement of the song is really interesting as every girl had a moment to shine–which is rare in any group.
2. “We All Try” –Frank Ocean
Just another brilliantly penned and beautifully sung song by Ocean from his mixtape Nostalgia, ULTRA. It’s honest, emotional and even inspirational.
1 . “Get Mine, Get Yours” –Christina Aguilera

At 13 years old, when Stripped came out, I loved this song. And at 23, I still love this song. A song about casual sex, it has an unexpected sound. The track, the melody, the arrangement, the lyrics and Aguilera’s playful-yet-powerful tone are all perfect. To this day, this song is still a fan-favorite.
Do you like these songs? Did you know any of them? If you think other songs should have been on the list, let me know in the comments and you might see them on the next “Songs You Should Know”!
