BBC’s Sound of the year lists are always both relevant and in some cases even accurate when it comes to highlighting an artist or band that will gain notoriety/exposure during the following year. Artists such as Adele (Sound of 2008), Ellie Goulding (Sound of 2012) and Jessie J (Sound of 2011) just to name a few, have claimed the top spot in past years. Other artists that have been featured on these lists include Frank Ocean, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bloc Party and Florence + The Machine.
BBC’s Sound of 2013 top spot was claimed by Haim, a trio of pop-rock Californian sisters whose sound is influenced by 70’s rock and 80’s pop and are often compared to Fleetwood Mac.

Something that needs to be pointed out about this year’s list is the fact that the top 5 spots are female fronted acts, this includes: AlunaGeorge, Angel Haze, Laura Mvula, and CHVRCHES.

Considering the fact that the artists selected each year are voted for a wide range of journalists, DJs, bloggers and more, showcases the variety of genres from where these artists come from. If you ask me, one of the best places to find new music is definitely through these lists. I’m looking forward to Haim’s releases in the upcoming years.
