Girl Wilde’s forthcoming debut EP, Probably Crying, is set for release this Friday, October 11th. We had the opportunity to talk with the rising artist about introducing her art to the world and how to properly celebrate the momentous occassion.
TYF: How did you decide that the EP was ready for release? Was there a date you were trying to hit? A number of songs? A gut feeling? When did you know Probably Crying was ready?
Girl Wilde: I think it was all based on a feeling. I was sitting on the five songs. I was kind of just like, okay, this is a body of work that really represents me, and the past few years, and where my mind is. I wrote a lot of songs, but these are the ones that just feel like the best representation of myself and how I want to introduce myself to the world.
TYF: When your new EP is released, how do you plan on celebrating? This one’s a multiple-choice question:
- Have a big show planned.
- Getting away from it all for a few days.
- Musicians to party with.
- Fill in the blank. How do you want to celebrate this?
Girl Wilde: So you kind of hit the nail on the head. We’re going to have a show on October 14 to celebrate the EP. So I’m very excited about that, but the night that it comes out I am going to be celebrating at, it’s called Creep L.A. It’s this scary experience you walk through. It’s a horror immersive experience. I was like, this is how I’m celebrating.
TYF: Which song do you have the most fun performing from the EP? Which song is the hardest to perform?
Girl Wilde: The one I have the most fun doing is “Batshit” just because it’s so upbeat and it’s just so much fucking fun. “Probably Crying” is emotional for me, but in a good way. Emotionally that would be the one that leans towards most difficult and honest, but I think all of them are super fun for me to perform and “Batshit” just ends up being the one that gets everyone’s energy up and going.
TYF: So much of today’s artist-fan relationship has become digital. What is it like watching a fan’s comments or digital reaction versus the rush of performing on stage and meeting them face-to-face?

Girl Wilde: It’s so different. I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to reach out and comment and support the music. That’s really the most incredible experience is to have people be able to relate to my art and say, “I feel this way too.” But there is something so special about being able to meet people at shows. I’m all about meeting people that connect to the music and sharing stories and really having that in-person connection. It’s so special.
TYF: Who is an artist that you would love to collaborate with? Is there anyone we can pressure to work with you from this article?
Girl Wilde: I mean there are lots of people. I think someone who I really love right now is Alexander 23. I love his songwriting and everything that he has going on. I think that I’d one day love to work with Pete Wentz. Cause he’s incredible. Fall Out Boy is like my shit! Those are two, from past and present, that I would love to collaborate with.
TYF: What advice would you give to singers who are just starting today?

Girl Wilde: Don’t give up. Don’t give up and trust your gut. Like it really comes down to figuring out who you are, what you believe in, and sticking to it. The industry has a way of telling you everything that you should be, instead of rejoicing in who you actually are. I think that’s the most important thing, is just staying true to yourself, and trusting your gut.
TYF: Is there any information I did not ask about that you would like presented in this interview?
Girl Wilde: I’m super excited for the show. I’m so excited to get this EP out. There’s going to be a visual teaser that I am putting out with the EP that’s going to really show people some insight into what my world looks like.
