With so many up and coming artists looking for their moment in the spotlight. Puerto Rican star Dalex looks to separate himself from the crowd by fusing R&B to his Urban beat. We at the Young Folks had the great pleasure of interviewing Dalex about his new album Climaxxx and his next move following his debut album.
If the title of Dalex’s album didn’t already give it away, he has no problem singing about romance and lust filled nights. So while not uncommon in today’s music world, Dalex’s infusion of R&B slows the rhythm of his music to a level unseen in the Urban genre.
“When you finally do listen to Climaxxx you will see how we mixed the two (Urban/R&B). If you leave it to me i would have made a whole R&B album. But you know Latinos love to dance and have something upbeat. So we were able to find a middle ground where I’ll add my R&B flavor.”
At only 28 years of age Dalex is just now entering the prime of his career. Much of which he attributes to fellow Puerto Rican artists Wisen and Yandel. Pioneers of what we today call Urban music, you can hear that inspiration flow in not only the beats within the album but also in the lyrics themselves. Some which may sound extreme given the context behind the words. Dalex however sees that “extreme” as artistic expression.
“As for me I make sure to tell my fans yes the lyrics are strong, but to still enjoy it just don’t do what the lyrics say. Like in movies there’s murder scenes but you’re not going to go out and do what you see on a movie. It’s just entertainment. I make sure everyone remembers that.”
While still very young, Dalex has already amassed a large fan base reaching over a million subscribers on YouTube and over 400 thousand on Instagram. Leading to what will surely be a successful debut and career moving forward.
