While not yet at the level of Puerto Rican chart toppers like Daddy Yankee or Ozuna. Up and comer Joseph El De La Urba is taking his first step in reaching those heights.
We at the Young Folks had the pleasure of interviewing this rising star as we spoke about his new single, life in the limelight and his love for his island of Puerto Rico.
While just being 17 years old, Joseph carries his Puerto Rican heritage on his sleeve. In the small amount of time that I sat down with Joseph, it was evident that he prides himself in representing Puerto Rico. As most Puerto Rican artists do. Thus giving meaning to his name “El De La Urba”.
“Joseph El De La Urba means that I have an urban heart. I can travel the world and go anywhere, but I’ll always have the Urban touch from my island of Puerto Rico… My island has so much talent to show. It’s already show so much but there’s much more left to show.”
At just the tender age of 17 Joseph has found himself with a smash single titled Por Una Noche (For One Night) that has already gained over two million views on YouTube. Por Una Noche focuses specifically on a relationship turned sour due to infidelity. Something that Joseph considered to be very common.
“(Infidelity) is something that you see regularly in the world. It’s not like a personal story or something that’s happened to me… I just feel it’s something people can identify with.”
Though Joseph is still in the midst of his teenage years. His mind and focus are wiser beyond his years as he knows this is just the beginning of what we all hope becomes a very fruitful career.
“I’m only 17 and there is still a lot left to come. This is just the beginning; I always say that. This is just the beginning.”
