The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced seven inductees for their class of 2019 earlier today.
The Cure, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Roxy Music, Radiohead and The Zombies were chosen for induction hall of fame’s voters, from a nomination shortlist of 15 artists.
Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks and Roxy Music were all inducted on their first ballot appearance, although all had been eligible for nomination for several years. Nicks is the first woman to be inducted twice, having previously been enshrined as a member of Fleetwood Mac. Jackson, The Cure, Radiohead and The Zombies had all appeared on the ballot before 2019.
To be eligible for nomination to the Hall, an artist must have released their first recording – single or album – no later than 25 prior to the year of nomination. No first year eligible acts were nominated this year, although Radiohead was inducted in their second year of eligibility.
The artists who were nominated, but not inducted, this year were Devo, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, MC5, John Prine, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus & Chaka Khan and Todd Rundgren.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2019 induction ceremony will be held on Mar. 29 at the Barclays Center in New York, and will be broadcast by HBO later in the year. According to an official press release, the Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland will unveil a new wing devoted to the 2019 inductees around the time of the March ceremony.
