You may be familiar with the pop-rock trio Just Seconds Apart without realizing it. They’ve opened for both Plain White T’s and Jesse McCartney, bringing their infectious sound wherever they go. For the majority of their lives, music is all they’ve known. Earlier this month, the triplets, Sela, Ari, and Alex celebrated their birthday and debuted their latest single “Good To Know,” the pick me up song everyone needs when they’re down-and-out. Seems like a good way to kick off their 11th year together as a band and their special day. Read on below to see our interview with the band. The Young Folks: First things first – happy belated birthday! Other than releasing your newest single, what did you guys do to celebrate your big day?
Just Seconds Apart: We celebrated at Disneyland with our family!
TYF: It seems like you’ve all had a great past year. What were some of the biggest highlights?
JSA: Releasing new music and going on tour with Jesse McCartney.
TYF: For most of your lives, you’ve all created and performed music together. Could you even imagine your life any differently? If this wasn’t the path that you did take, what can you envision yourself possibly doing?
JSA: We can’t imagine our life any differently as while we are three, at times, it feels as if we are one. We are incredibly close and don’t just love each other but also have respect for one another.
TYF: We sort of mentioned it earlier but congrats on your new song “Good to Know.” For those who don’t know, what’s the origin story for this one? When did you guys write it and finally decide to release it?
JSA: The origin for “Good To Know” is quite personal to us. We started to see things we had hoped for in our career come to fruition. As for the things that hadn’t yet happened, we needed something ‘good to know.’ We chose to release the song on our birthday because it also marked our 11th year together as a band.

TYF: On those rough days when you’re waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel, how do you try to get through those rough patches?
JSA: It’s rare when all three of us are in that type of space. We pick each other up and always have each other’s back.

TYF: What’s the dynamic like when you three are in the process of writing a new song?
JSA: When we’re in the process of writing a new song, there’s excitement in the air as well as an intense emotional aura. We’re all on the same page and will not retreat until the song is complete.
TYF: What is tour life like with three siblings? Does it feel like one big family vacation or something entirely different?
JSA: Tour life is extra special because we do it together. We travel with our mom and the four of us work super well together. It’s definitely different than a family vacation in that this is our career. Aside from rehearsing for the shows, we train physically to be sure we are in great shape.
TYF: What can we expect for the future of Just Seconds Apart?
JSA: More music, more music videos, and more tours!!
