It’s been a while since we talk about The National. Their last album, Trouble Will Find Me, was released way back in 2013, receiving highly positive reviews from music critics around the world. Four years have passed and the band is ready to make a comeback, preparing the release of their seventh full length studio album, Sleep Well Beast.
Scheduled to be released on September 8th on 4AD, the band’s upcoming new album promises to show audiences a new side of the quintet. The album was recorded at guitarist Aaron Dessner’s studio in Hudson Valley, New York, with additional sessions taking place in Berlin, Paris and Los Angeles.
“The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness“, Sleep Well Beast‘s lead single, was released back in May, followed by “Guilty Party” on June. Both singles feature Matt Berninger’s unmistakable baritone voice along with upbeat piano chords, synthesizers and guitar solos. Earlier this week, “System” reached #1 on Billboard‘s Adult Alternative chart, their first ever chart-topping single.
To continue fueling the hype of fans (myself included!), just a few hours ago, the Brooklyn based indie band released “Carin at the Liquor Store“, their third and final single before Sleep Well Beast arrives next month. This track, which you can listen to above, is slower and much deeper than the other two, making it a perfect addition to the set.
New album means live shows are coming. Starting mid-September, the band will head out on an international tour in support of the album, starting in Ireland and then making their way all around the Northern Hemisphere. You can see the full list of tour dates on their website.
