The “Seashore” video takes the Regrettes into the past

Being a retro-punk band, the Regrettes are no strangers to a good throwback video–this time, they’ve taken it a step further than their usual ‘60s aesthetic. Comprised of frontwoman Lydia Night, guitarist Genessa Gariano, bass player Sage Nicole, and drummer Maxx Marando, the Regrettes debuted on the music scene with their retro punk fusion album, Feel Your Feelings, Fool! This time around, they’re tackling a feeling of frustration with their video for “Seashore.” Like the rest of their debut album, “Seashore” blends retro harmonies with a punk sound and the perfect amount of attitude–a stellar blend for a fresh, feminist record.

What sounds like a lovely, beach-centric tune is actually a song about flipping off the patriarchy with just enough profanity to let you know they mean it. “And I’ll still kick your ass even in my skirt/You’re talking to me like a child/But I’m not a helpless baby/Not waiting for you to come save me/I’m like nobody else/So you can just go fuck yourself,” Night sings, calling out anyone who has underestimated her for her age or gender. The video explores women throughout history who are just as over it as she is now–be they accused witches or suffragettes. Check out the video here:

The video opens with Night taking the presidential podium, apparently a direct address to the current president, a man Night considers a bully. “The video represents resistance. Given the fact that people in those time periods couldn’t stand up for themselves, I wanted to make sure that I’m always standing up for things that I believe in and for myself,” Night explained to Entertainment Weekly.

Feel Your Feelings, Fool! is out now.
