Indie rock and emo trio Rainer Maria have announced that they will release their first album in 11 years on August 18.
The album is titled S/T , after the common abbreviation for a self-titled record (although doing so means that the album is, ironically, not self-titled). It is the band’s first record since 2006’s Catastrophe Will Keep Us Together and will be released on their longtime home Polyvinyl.
Rainer Maria made a name for themselves in the late 1990s and early 2000s for their unique take on the Midwest emo sound that relied on harmonies from the band’s two lead singers and witty, carefully constructed lyrics. The band broke up in 2006, but reunited in 2014 and have played a handful of shows since then.
Along with the announcement of S/T, the band has released a new single titled “Lower Worlds”, which can be listened to below.
S/T can be pre-ordered on LP, CD, cassette or digital download through Polyvinyl’s website.
