Today, the second trailer for Logan dropped, and it’s not the kind of movie that I expected to be. The first shot is of a young girl in a convenience store going through the snack aisle. An immediate thought that comes to mind is that this has to be a Mountain Dew commercial, but clearly it isn’t. It’s attention grabbing, but not necessarily in a way related to the subject matter, until Logan arrives and gets her out of there.
The remainder of the trailer is heavily focused on this little girl who has mutant powers. Ok, that was expected, but wait, her superpower is that she has the Wolverine claws. So it’s basically a child Wolverine. On the surface, there could be some intrigue to this. Is she the daughter of Logan? Was she a subject of Weapon X? Either of those are doubtful. Followers of the X-Men comics would speculate that she’s most likely a character called X-23.
The trailer has some gory going for it, and hopefully, the studio is using the supposed R rating wisely. Overall, this trailer is a bit puzzling as to what they are setting out to do with this movie. The movie title reads Logan, but the trailer indicates that it’s not quite centered on the title character.
Logan arrives in theaters on March 3, 2017.
