I will be the first to admit that I have a problem. I have an addiction of sorts. It’s something of an acquired taste, but I know I’m not alone. I have a persistent urge to see horror films, no matter how bad I know they will be. Each film is an attempt to get that “fix” that will either scare me senseless or scar me emotionally. A few films came close in 2016, but this year is already looking like it will leave me feeling emotionally raw.
When Raw hit the festival circuit last year, it created quite an uproar that sparked walk-outs and freak-outs. Needing to have ambulances ferry out moviegoers during the film is probably one of the best endorsements any horror film can have. The film follows a vegetarian veterinarian and her descent into peer-pressured meat-eating. It looks wild, graphic and oddly seductive, much like last year’s The Neon Demon.
If you’re anything like me, you can’t wait until you can take a bite out of this film. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait 2 months for this cannibalistic cinematic experience, but the trailer offers a small snack until then. Think you can stomach it?
