Felicity Jones went from little known British actress to Oscar nominated one in a flash. To those that paid attention and followed her career knew that the stunning Brit has a world of talent and it was only a matter of time that Hollywood would catch on. Before her Oscar nomination, Jones had established an impressive resume with some memorable roles. You can see Jones emotionally captivate you again in her latest film A Monster Calls, where she plays a dying young mother. Here is a look at the top five Felicity Jones movie roles:

LIKE CRAZY:

Jones and the late Anton Yelchin star in this romantic drama about two college students who fall in love, but are separated by their birthplace. Jones plays a British student that overstays her visit to the US and most leave the country, problem is that she’s fallen in love with Yelchin’s character, who is an American. Their long distance love turns turbulent to say the least. It was a subtly impressive performance by Jones that gave you an idea she is a talent to watch.

THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING:

This is the role that garnered her an Oscar nomination for playing the Jane Hawking. The movie detailed the relationship between the famous physicist Stephen Hawking and his wife, Jane. Eddie Redmayne ended up winning an Oscar for his portrayal of Hawking, but Jones was a huge focal point of the movie and the unsung MVP. It’s a deeply touching story, and Jones is terrific in playing a caregiver that doesn’t give up hope. This role not only established her on the mainstream, but it cemented the fact that she is an actress that can do just about anything. A next level kinda talent.

TRUE STORY:

The movie is based on a true story of a New York Times journalist who meets an accused murder who takes his identity. By no means this isn’t a major role for Jones, but in True Story she really fits in seamlessly on the outside of the leads played by James Franco and Jonah Hill. It’s easy to nominate an actor for their lead performances that so much attention is drawn to in the story, but for a character to blend in and be viable is just as impressive. Jones does just that in this movie, scaling back and taking a backseat. This is a case of less is more.

A MONSTER CALLS:

Once again Jones is in a movie that’s heartbreaking and playing a character (Mum) that will have you emotionally attached to. In the film a boy develops a unique bond with a tree monster that helps him cope with his dying mom. She’s perfect in the role of playing a young mother, bringing a sense of reality to this fantastical world. Once again further proof that this actress can do it all. This might be the most emotionally poignant character that Jones has played yet.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY:

Jones finally takes center stage as the lead actor in a major blockbuster franchise movie. If The Theory of Everything was her arrival to the party, this movie was her hosting it. Jones plays the heroine of the movie, Jyn Erso, who is tasked with saving the galaxy. This was a non-typical role for Jones, who dishes out some impressive fight moves and kicks some ass in the process. This might be the pinnacle of her career accomplishments, to be a central lead in a Star Wars movie. This role proved that Jones is willing to step out of her comfort zone and do something against type. Versatility at it’s finest. This actress is officially a household name.
