If you loved Chronicle (2012) and are a sucker for amazing street magic, this next film should be on your 2017 radar. Just a few days ago, the first teaser trailer for Sleight was released, one of the films that impressed everyone at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year not only for its story and performances but for its visual effects as well.
Directed by J.D. Dillard and written alongside Alex Theurer, the film tells the story of Bo, a young street magician who must enter the drug dealer world in order to take care of his younger sister, Tina. Being only a teaser trailer, we don’t get to see much but we do get a little taste of Bo’s magical talent that definitely leaves us wanting to see more.
Sleight, starring Jacob Latimore, Seychelle Gabriel, Dulé Hill, Storm Reid, Sasheer Zamata, Carmen Esposito and Michael Villar, would be the directorial debut of J.D Dillard. He’s done some short films in the past and has worked as a producer and editor. Last year he was part of the “production and technical support” team for Bad Robot in last year’s box office hit Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Could J.D Dillard be the up-and-coming new Josh Trank? I know how much I loved watching Chronicle, and I’m positive this one will also get my attention in many ways.
Sleight will open on April 7, 2017. Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments!
