“Tale as old as time…”
The official trailer for the live-action Beauty and the Beast is finally here! After a teaser earlier this year and sneak peek images gave us a first look at the film, we now have a better sense of the movie. The trailer plays up on the nostalgia and gives us a lovely version of the music, which is part of what made the 1992 animated film so wonderful. But besides that, it’s also stunningly beautiful.
You can watch the official trailer below!
Disney is well on its way to turning all of their classic animated movies to into live-action films. The Jungle Book and Cinderella have already proven a success, and Mulan is on its way to a live-action retelling as well. But let’s examine the trailer. There’s no question that the cinematography is gorgeous; Emma Watson no doubt stays true to Belle’s character and will give a great performance. We get a glimpse of Luke Evans as Gaston in action–he looks and acts just as outrageous (with disgusting behavior intact) as his animated counterpart. Dan Stevens as the beast in CGI, however, is probably the least enjoyable aspect of the trailer. The CGI doesn’t look that great and the story seems exactly the same (as was in Cinderella’s case as well), but I’ll reserve full judgement until the film’s release. Regardless, there’s still a deep sense of magic present within the trailer.
Beauty and the Beast is directed by Bill Condon, with a screenplay by Evan Spiliotopoulos, Steven Chbosky and Condon.
The film is in theaters March 17, 2017.
