After roughly a month of negotiations, Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast in the lead role for HIGHLANDER. Reynolds will play Conner MacLeod, a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final “Prize” – immortality.
The remake is set to be helmed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who is also in negotiations to rewrite the script. Neal Moritz and Peter Davis will produce the film.
Reynolds seems to be an odd choice for the role. I was thinking someone more like Gerard Butler, but I guess Reynolds really impressed them or they’re trying for a different take’look for the story in this reboot. I will admit that I don’t know much about the Highlander franchise, but I do know that it has quite the following. Most of their reactions haven’t been very favorable to this particular casting news. I’ll wait to judge until I see some photos of Reynolds in character. However, for now, I’m mildly, if at all, interested in the project.
