As July comes to an end, I wanted to look back at the month and let you know about five July movies you should see. These titles are available as limited theatrical releases, Blu-ray & DVD and VOD. Some you might have heard a lot about, others you might not have heard anything about, either way go check these films out:
DON’T WORRY BABY:

Two guys and a woman. Simple concept that gets super tangled in Don’t Worry Baby. The two guys are a father and son, the woman in question is someone who they both slept with. To add another wrinkle, she has a young daughter that one of them could be the father of. Now that’s a complicated matter. I really enjoyed this film for the genuinely funny and uncomfortable moments that it provides. It’s also a very human story. These days, it’s not inconceivable that a strange occurrence such as this one could actually happen. The relationship and on-screen chemistry between John Magaro ( the son) and Chris McDonald (the father) is intriguing and entertaining to watch.

LOVE BETWEEN THE COVERS:

For someone who loves romance, I found this feature documentary to be fascinating. The film chronicles the stories of a variety of female romance novel writers. It’s a great inside look at who the women, behind some of those novels, are. Their lives, motivations and passion for writing these fiction stories of romance are depicted in the film. It’s really interesting to get a close and in-depth look at the business of these novels, as well as the loyal fan base behind it. Not only did I learn that there was such a thing as the Romance Writers of America National Convention, which appeared nearly as large as a comic convention, but how loyal and passionate the fans that attend are (mainly women it appears). This isn’t just a movie that can appeal to romance novel fans, but a movie that can appeal to anyone who is interested in the stories of writers from all sorts of unique and professional backgrounds.

Life, Animated might be one of the most inspiring and remarkable films of the year. The film is based on the real life story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child who learns how to communicate through watching Disney movies. Academy Award winning director Roger Ross Williams takes you on a journey through Owen’s childhood through his maturation into an adult. It’s an up-close look at the Suskind family and the meaningful life lessons that Disney movies contain. This film will have you crying, smiling and feeling inspired. It is genuine and honest. A film that anyone can take something away from. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this ended up being an Oscar nominated documentary. It’s that good.

Jason Bateman’s second feature film directing attempt (first was Bad Words) is another success. Unlike Bad Words, this film is a lot more unique. Bateman stars along a top-notch cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Christopher Walken and Kathryn Hahn. The premise centers on a brother and sister coming back to town due to the disappearance of their famous parents. The film has comedy, mystery and drama all well pieced together. It has a very indie feel to it, but with major stars. It’s all about the terrific ensemble cast that delivers incredible performances.

EVERYBODY WANTS SOME:

Everybody Wants Some is one of my favorite and most entertaining movies of the year. Filled with up-and-coming young stars such as Tyler Hoechlin (CW’s new Superman), Blake Jenner (NOT related to Caitlin) and Ryan Guzman among others. This Richard Linklater gem will take you back to the early 80’s and have you wishing you were in college back then. That’s the kind of feeling this movie gave me. It’s packed with outrageous moments and a lot of laughs. There is no denying that this is a guys movie, but it’s so relatable to anyone that’s experienced college, whether it is in 2016 or 1982. The Blu-ray Combo Pack is a worthy buy that’s packed with a ton of bonus features. This is basically the retro-modern film version of Dazed and Confused. I know that sounds confusing, but trust me on this one.
