If there’s one thing Disney has always been fantastic at, it’s their ability to weave memorable tales in spell-binding worlds. With the continued critical and financial acclaim of Disney’s latest animated features, from a tale of animals fighting racism in Zootopia to the worldwide box office phenomenon that was Frozen, it comes as no surprise that Walt Disney Animation Studios is looking to continue their streak of animated gold in the form of their latest Disney Princess feature. However, one excellent aspect about the upcoming Moana, is that the narrative looks to navigate a largely unexplored realm of the animated world: Ancient Oceania in the South Pacific. And if this teaser is an indication of anything, it’s Disney’s continued streak of slam dunks in building strong heroine princess characters.
Set in the ancient times of the Oceania South Pacific, Moana follows the titular character Princess Moana Waialiki (Auli’i Cravalho,) who is a natural-born navigator of the oceans around her. Setting sail in search of a mysterious island, Princess Moana is aided in her adventure by the fabled demi-god Maui (Dwayne Johnson.) Together, they hope to help out Moana’s family by whatever means the island has in store for them.
Moana is currently slated to release on November 23 of this year. Be sure to watch the teaser trailer below and let us know if you’re excited for the latest Disney Princess epic!
