I don’t consider myself a hard core Star Trek fan, but I’ve gotten to really love this franchise over the past few years. The new trailer for the upcoming Star Trek Beyond was released by Paramount on Friday and it’s already getting a lot of positive reactions from fans everywhere. We posted the first trailer for the film back in December and our minds were not blown away with it, but this new preview shows us real action and what promises to be a real Star Trek film.
Directed by Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) and starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Idris Elba, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Sofia Boutella and Karl Urban, the film takes place while Captain Kirk and his crew explore new galaxies as part of their five-year mission. “The Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test,” reads the official synopsis of the film.
Even though we still don’t have enough details about the film (which is a good thing nowadays), the trailer pretty much gives us what we need to know. We see some familiar faces and we also get to meet some new characters, like Krall (played by Elba) and Jaylah (played by Boutella). This movie could bring the franchise up a few levels of awesome, or not. We will have to wait and see. We are putting all our faith in you, Mr. Lin.
Star Trek Beyond will arrive to theaters on July 22, making a special appearance at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20. Watch the latest trailer below and let us know what you think!
