Much like the mighty tiger, you can never keep a roaring spirit down. Such is the case with Nicolas Cage, who recently announced his involvement with the highly sought after sequel to the 2006 global smash hit The Wicker Man. Grossing over $4 billion at the box office, critics and audiences alike were baffled as to why it took Warner Bros. almost a decade to finally begin production on The Wicker Man 2. However, with Hollywood’s recent influx of late sequels, such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 and Titanic 2, it appears it was only a matter of time before this masterpiece finally made its way back on the silver screen.
The Wicker Man 2 stars Nicolas Cage as Policeman Edward Malus. Having survived being burned alive in the giant wicker man, Malus is out for revenge against his former family, having betrayed him and attempting to use him as a human sacrifice. Entering a local pub in search of as many guns as he can get his hands on, Edward Malus is introduced to the biggest arms dealer in all of Canada, Barry B. Benson the Bee (Jerry Seinfeld.) Despite Malus’ prejudice against the bee race, the two have no choice but to work together when they are ambushed by a rogue squadron of burning wicker men out to kill the Policeman once and for all. Together, Malus and Barry the Bee may just have to form an unlikely friendship if they wish to survive to an already planned third Wicker Man feature.
Directors Michael Bay and Tyler Perry have promised that Nicolas Cage will perform the entire film in his iconic bear suit from the original feature. Additionally, it has been noted that Malus’ infamous phrase “Not the bees!” has become his catch phrase in the sequel, and will especially be used when Barry the Bee gets the pair into awkward and hilarious shenanigans. Be sure to keep an eye out for this original Hollywood feature in the coming months, as The Wicker Man 2 is currently set to release on September 31 this year.
