The unbelievably overwhelming success of The Avengers has probably had many studios turn green with envy. Hence, it’s no surprise that Warner Bros. has announced that they are planning a Justice League (DC Comics’ version of a superhero team) film and have hired ‘Gangster Squad’ scribe, Will Beale, to pen the script.
A few years ago, WB was working on a Justice League movie. They had already tapped George Miller to direct the film and had cast a group of young and (at the time) unknown actors. Adam Brody was set to play The Flash, Megan Gale would be Wonder Woman, and Armie Hammer was signed to play Batman. However, many issues got in the project’s way. The writers’ strike affected it hard. In addition, WB already had Christopher Nolan’s Batman films and adding another Batman to their film slate would confuse moviegoers.
While this news does bring life back into the project, it doesn’t mean we’ll definitely be seeing it on the big screen. Although, because of The Avengers, I think it’s likely. Also, it would give WB a way to reboot the Batman franchise after Nolan’s Batman trilogy finishes this summer. If it does happen, no doubt we’ll see Zack Snyder’s Superman film make a connection to it next year.
