So you just saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens and can’t wait for Episode VIII… Here is a quick rundown on when and what to expect the next Star Wars movies.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Release Date: December 16, 2016
What? The next Star Wars movie isn’t a sequel to The Force Awakens? Unfortunately, you’ll need to wait a bit longer to see what’s next for Rey, Finn, and company. However, a new standalone story set in the Star Wars universe will help you through the wait. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), Rogue One takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, where Rebel Alliance soldiers plan a heist on the original Death Star. Participating in the heist, Felicity Jones leads the cast, which includes Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, and Forest Whitaker.
Star Wars: Episode VIII
Release Date: May 26, 2017
This is what you’re looking for! J.J. Abrams is giving up the helm to Rian Johnson (Looper) for this sequel to The Force Awakens. If you’ve seen Episode VII already, you have a good idea of what awaits us in the next part of the story. The Light side will need to fight the Dark. Most of the cast is returning, and Benicio Del Toro has been cast in a mystery role. Here’s to hoping that Rian Johnson brings something new to the Star Wars formula.
Han Solo Movie

Release Date: May 25, 2018
Disney announced earlier this year that they plan to make film based on the adventures of young Han Solo. Lawrence Kasdan will return to co-write the script with The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who also plan to direct the film. This may the funniest, lightest movie set in the Star Wars universe. No one has been cast as in the coveted role of young Han Solo, but as long as it isn’t Ansel Elgort, we’re good.
Star Wars: Episode IX
Release Date: Sometime in 2019

Right off his big blockbuster debut, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow will direct Star Wars: Episode IX. At this point, we have no idea what will go down in the last movie and who will still be around.
Boba Fett Movie
Release Date: Sometime in 2020 (Rumored)
This movie is a bit in limbo. It doesn’t have a director yet, and we’re not sure if the script is in development and who is writing it. But they have time to sort out the details.
