It has not been an easy road for Natalie Portman’s western Jane Got a Gun. From casting and director changes, the film has faced an uphill battle in getting made, and the trailer released does little to increase intrigue. The storyline seems muddled, and the trailer is oddly put together. The official synopsis reads:
A woman asks her ex-lover for help in order to save her outlaw husband from a gang out to kill him.
Directed by Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) and starring Portman along with Ewan McGregor, Rodrigo Santoro and Noah Emmerich, the film isn’t devoid of talent, but with the production hell it went through, it’s hard to have much faith before plot summaries and trailers offer more clarity. However, Steve Jobs faced equal amount of pre-production scrutiny and has performed relatively unscathed.
Any interest caught by the trailer? Let us know in the comments! Jane Got a Gun is currently looking at a release date in February 2016 from The Weinstein Company, typically a dumping ground for film releases, so time will tell.
I’ll be over in my corner thinking about the what could have been’s if Lynne Ramsay and Michael Fassbender had stuck with the project.
