Box-office estimates are in for the weekend of March 27th-29th , 2015.
#1- Home:
DreamWorks Animation studios can breathe a sigh of relief seeing that their only film being released this year blew past most expectations for a $54M debut. No ones getting fired! *High Five* With mostly negative reviews and a not-so-convincing premise, I don’t think anyone was expecting this to be the biggest DWA pic debut in three years. It’s yet to be seen how this movie will hold but with no major competition for the younger audiences any time soon, chances are a 3.5X is likely.
#2- Get Hard:
Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart’s promo work paid off here. The two comedy stars were put into over drive on promotional work for this picture over the past few months and that turned into a $34.6M first weekend number. With so many comedy stars failing to bring in crowds anymore (*cough* Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler *cough*) it’s always something to celebrate when some of the veterans (Ferrell not Hart) can pull an audience.
#3- The Divergent Series: Insurgent:
With an expected yet still deep drop, the second movie in the ‘Divergent’ Franchise had a second weekend of $22M. With unimpressive mid-week numbers, the pic is now lagging around $8M behind the first film with a $86.3M total. The good news is that overseas numbers should even out the difference.

#4- Cinderella:
With a somewhat steep drop, the live-action fairytale remake took in $17.5M in its third weekend for a $150M total. Continuing to lag behind ‘Maleficent,’ the female-centered pic is still on track for a total north of $200M. With a number like that on the horizon, and a cheaper than usual production cost (about half of ‘Maleficent’s’) this is already another success for Disney.
#5- It Follows:
Though a $4M first weekend in wide release doesn’t seem like an impressive number, this STD-centric horror pic had somewhat of a rocky release. Originally not intended to go wide this weekend, the film had a last minute push. It now stands at $4.7M and we’ll have to see how it does from here on out.
