On Tuesday, it was announced that New York Times best-selling author Gayle Forman’s novel I Was Here is being adapted into a movie by New Line, the same company that adapted and released her other novel If I Stay last August.
Instead of hiring a producer for the film, Forman will executive produce under the New Line’s creative executive Andrea Johnson.
Published in January, I Was Here centers on Cody, an 18-year-old girl, whose best friend, Meg, who commits suicide without any warning. When Cody travels to Meg’s college town to pack up her things she uncovers several secrets.
Last fall, Universal acquired the rights to Forman’s Just One Day and sequel, Just One Year. The studio plans to combine both stories into a single feature. Fake Empire Heads Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are slated to produce.
