Well, it looks like another Disney classic is getting a live-action remake, and I couldn’t be more excited for it!
Harry Potter alum Emma Watson announced earlier today on Facebook that she will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action version of the beloved classic. Beauty and the Beast is the latest Disney classic to be redone and released in theaters. The news comes hot on the heels of the upcoming reboots of Cinderella (debuting in March) and The Jungle Book.
She wrote on Facebook, “I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it.”
The film will be a musical and will feature both Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s original songs from the 1991 version as well as new music from Menken. It will be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) and production is set to begin in late 2015. The studio has yet to reveal a release date.
It is rumored that Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) will adapt the musical for the big screen.
