Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have revealed the first teaser trailer for the Dwayne Johnson vehicle “San Andreas” today. After the San Andreas Fault gives, it unleashes a massive earthquake centered in California. Dwayne Johnson stars as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot that must race from Los Angeles to San Francisco along with his estranged wife to save their only daughter.
I’m a huge fan of Dwayne Johnson and was looking forward to seeing more from this project based on his involvement alone. The teaser shows exactly what you would expect from a movie of this type. There is tons of crazy destruction caused by the quake with roads cracking, skyscrapers falling, and dams bursting. We’ve had our fair share of destruction and mayhem in recent years, but it’s kind of refreshing to see it all be caused by a natural disaster instead of by a super powered being or some crazy piece of technology. It really gives me an old school feel and is very reminiscent of an old Roland Emmerich movie.
However, this is not an Emmerich film. “San Andreas” reunites Dwayne Johnson with his “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” director Brad Peyton and producer Beau Flynn. The teaser also gives us a small taste of the supporting cast. There are brief glimpses of Carla Gugino (“Night at the Museum,” TV’s “Entourage”) and Alexandra Daddario (“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” TV’s “True Detective”), and Paul Giamatti has the only real speaking part of the trailer as he warns people of just how big the earthquake is. “San Andreas” hits theaters May 29, 2015, check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!
