As an avid reader of Young Adult lit, The DUFF by Kody Keplinger totally escaped my attention until the trailer for the movie adaptation premiered the other day. I have to say I found it so endearing that I bought and downloaded The DUFF to my Kindle to read immediately. Forty-eight hours later and I’m so in love with Bianca, Wesley and the rest of the characters who make up this funny, contemporary romance. You can watch the trailer for the film below.
If you have read the book, you’ll notice that the movie seems to have changed up the story bit. The deviation into My Fair Lady territory is slightly worrisome, as I think the true gem of the story is how the unorthodox relationship develops between Bianca (Mae Whitman) and Wesley (Robbie Amell). It has the makings of a great rom-com, especially with Mae Whitman perfectly cast as lead. Let’s hope that the movie isn’t as run-of-the-mill as the trailer makes it out to be.
Although, let’s be honest… That locker room scene made my week.
The DUFF arrives in theaters April 10, 2015.
