I don’t know about you, but to me, any film that stars Jason Schwartzman is usually a good pick to watch. He not only selects interesting characters to play, but interesting stories as well. We saw him earlier this year in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and we will see him again on Christmas Day with the release of Tim Burton’s Big Eyes. But hey, if you are looking for more films with Mr. Schwartzman, you are in luck: his latest film, Listen Up Philip, has a release date!
Listen Up Philip, written and directed by Alex Ross Perry, premiered and received great reviews at the Sundance Film Festival this year. Also starring Elisabeth Moss, Jonathan Pryce, Krysten Ritter, Eric Bogosian, Joséphine de La Baume, Jess Weixler and Dree Hemingway, the film tells the story of Philip Lewis Friedman (Schwartzman), a talented but very arrogant and selfish author who, after much struggle with the release of his second book and relationship problems with his girlfriend (Moss), decides to leave and clear his mind in a “country retreat” offered by his idol, Ike Zimmerman (Pryce). Honestly, the film looks quite entertaining, with a hint here and there of Woody Allen and Wes Anderson inspiration.
Listen Up Philip will have a limited opening on October 17th and will be available on VOD and iTunes on October 21st. Watch the latest trailer for the film below and let us know what you think!
