Out of all of the titles being released in the upcoming few months, no other has gotten my curiosity piqued like Alejandro Iñárritu’s Birdman. Reportedly having been shot as if it were one long single take, the film already looks eerily gorgeous with surreal imagery in the most mundane situations. Starring Michael Keaton as a washed-up actor whose main claim to fame was a character called “Birdman,” this film looks to straddle the line of real life comparisons and storytelling wonderfully.
With a cast that includes Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, and Naomi Watts, it’s hard not to be excited, but the director also has a history of strong work such as Biutiful and Babel. This film looks unconventional in all of the right ways and the trailer alone has me more excited than I ever would have previously thought. Hitting the festival circuit this fall and in theaters on limited release October 17th, this is a film where the expectations are limitless.
