I can’t help but be a little hesitant to jump on any new musical movie adaptation bandwagon after feeling so slighted by 2012’s Les Miserables. Remember how amazing the first trailer was? Remember how we all sat in the dim theater and felt chills as Anne Hathaway began her rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” and Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean walked towards salvation?
Remember how much we complained about just about everything following its release? Yeah, a well edited trailer can make you believe that any movie will be amazing and I refuse to be duped again!
However… the cast for Into the Woods is pretty stellar. Anna Kendrick, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and James Corden are all names that make me excited to see a film and in particular, Kendrick and Blunt deserve to star in a fantastic film. Hopefully with Rob Marshall (Chicago) directing and the producer of the stage production of Wicked on board there will be enough magical whimsy, humor and darker elements for everyone.
Here’s hoping that the official trailer sure to be released in the next few months will at the very least make sure everyone knows the movie is, in fact, a musical, and not just people dressed as fairtytale characters.
Read the official synopsis below and check out the trailer.
Into the Woods is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales in a musical format that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel – all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them
