J.J. Abrams’ second installment of the ‘Star Trek‘ franchise is finally moving forward with the announcement that a new cast member has been chosen. Alice Eve (She’s Out of My League) will join the ensemble cast, playing a non-canon character. Variety reports that Eve does not yet have a contract, but her deal will be announced by Paramount shortly, along with confirmation of Benicio del Toro’s role as the villain.
While Trekkies may be worried at the news of a new character being written into Trek lore, Abrams’ faithful recreation of the Star Trek world in his 2009 film should keep fears at bay, at least until we hear more about what he has planned.
The principal cast of Abrams original Star Trek will be returning, including Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Simon Pegg as Scotty.
Production is expected to start in early 2012 with Paramount planning to release the film on May 17, 2013.
Do you think Alice Eve is a good addition to the Trek cast? What role do you think she will have?
