Cat Gioino’s Oscar Predictions
Best Picture
What I Want to Win: Captain Phillips (I’m pretty angry Tom Hanks didn’t even get a nod for either lead or supporting actor, but the film was very emotionally moving and that deserves recognition)
What Will Win: Gravity (It’s so mainstream, like you know? No really, there is so much public interest in the film that it just will win since it’s a brand new kind of realistic filmmaking. RE: 2001: A Space Odyssey)
Best Actor
Who I Want to Win: Leonardo DiCaprio (Oh come on- he completely deserves it. He has the classic case of Marlon Brando- where he just is toyed with until boom- three nods later and he wins. Well guess what- Leo already had three nominations so if this rule carries, he’s going to win this one. RE: Below).
Who Will Win: Leonardo DiCaprio (RE: Above. Plus, have you seen the Quaaludes scene?)
Best Actress

Who I Want to Win: Judi Dench (Have you seen Philomena? She emotionally drags you into the movie and causes you to feel sensitively involved with her life).
Who Will Win: Sandra Bullock (Dench is a close tie if anything, but she hasn’t won in the past four nods, so the odds are she won’t this time, as well as the fact that Bullock is fresh off The Blind Side win and she’s going to get this second win- being the seventh person to win twice without losing).
Best Supporting Actor
Who I Want to Win: Jonah Hill (Not only did he brilliantly deliver some creepy hilarity in Wolf but he decided he wanted to work with Martin Scorsese so much that he got paid $20,000).

Who Will Win: Jared Leto (The general rule is if you transform yourself completely, you win. Cough Daniel Day Lewis Cough. So Leto’s the man).
Best Supporting Actress
Who I Want to Win: June Squibb (Besides being an out of nowhere actress who is also 84 years old, she perfectly ties Nebraska together and brings wit and humor to the screen).
Who Will Win: Jennifer Lawrence (It’s going to suck being JLaw for a while since she’s going to face outcries whether she wins or loses, and as much as everyone loves her, it’s going to turn into one of those “too much off a good thing is a bad thing,”).

Best Animated Feature Film
What I Want to Win: The Croods (Alright, I don’t think it’s that great of a movie, but the work put into it is what makes it amazing- the animators actually drew around the voice actors, meaning that they had to match up everything afterwards. Plus, everyone loves Frozen so I had to pick something else).
What Will Win: Frozen (“Let It Go,”)
Best Cinematography
What I Want to Win: Gravity (see below)
What Will Win: Gravity (See above)
Best Costume Design
What I Want to Win: The Great Gatsby (Have you seen how perfectly deco everyone is? It makes me wish I saw the film before I read the book, but still, an amazing view).
What Will Win: 12 Years A Slave (Well we all know about the Civil War and we all know about Solomon Northup, so to transform everyone back 150 years ago is beyond belief).
Best Directing
Who I Want to Win: Martin Scorsese (Why? It’s MARTIN SCORSESE)
Who Will Win: Alexander Payne (He’s made Sideways, Election, About Schmidt and more, so he’s well known and has a record of winning, unlike my boy Marty. But then again, Scorsese does have a chance at swinging this win).
Best Documentary Feature
What I Want to Win: Dirty Wars (Almost like muckraking of the 1900s, this documentary opens your eyes to what journalists see everyday).
What Will Win: Cutie and The Boxer (This movie is so cute! That’s exactly why it’s called Cutie, but it shows a great New York story that delivers awws and oohs).
Best Documentary Short
What I Want to Win: Facing Fear (The short goes into the ordeal of a 13 year old boy abandoned for being who he is).
What Will Win: Karama Has No Walls (This doc brings into the viewers’ homes the violence that took place during the Egyptian Revolution in the past few years).
Best Film Editing
What I Want to Win: American Hustle (All the songs and the scenes flow smoothly into each other like a good chocolate fudge running down a Belgium waffle from the dinges food cart outside. #NYCfoodproblems)
What Will Win: Gravity (I believe everyone will vote for Gravity just because they know it’s that good and the editing is out of this world. Literally).
Best Foreign Language Film
Who I Want to Win: The Great Beauty (I’m Italian).
What Will Win: The Great Beauty (The film shows the beautiful mountainsides of Italy mixed with the stereotypically true city scenes of the regions, plus shows the story of a man just trying to get far in life).
Best Makeup and Hairstyling
What I Want to Win: Bad Grandpa (Have you see Jonny Knoxville?)
What Will Win: Dalla Buyers Club (Have you see Jared Leto? Sure, Knoxville is more work and better, but the Academy doesn’t like comedy that much for some reason)
Best Original Score
What I Want to Win: Philomena (It just matched beautifully to the screen and moved the story along gracefully)
What Will Win: Saving Mr. Banks (Disney never loses. Remember that)
Best Original Song
What I Want to Win: “Happy” (Call me a heartless monster, but I’m not a fan of “Let It Go.” But I do like inspiring addicting songs like “Happy.”)
What Will Win: “Let It Go” (Nope, we all saw this coming)
Best Production Design
What I Want to Win: American Hustle (You play my Zeppelin, you dress Christian Bale in a wig, and you make the world the 70s and 80s again)
What Will Win: Gravity (Again, this movie will steal everything)
Best Sound Editing
What I Want to Win: Captain Phillips (because water sounds and yelling weren’t enough)
What Will Win: Gravity (Because awkward breathing noises weren’t enough)
Best Sound Mixing
What I Want to Win: Captain Phillips (RE: See Sound Editing)
What Will Win: Gravity (RE: See Sound Editing)
Best Visual Affects:
What I Want to Win: Gravity (ok now I jumped on the bandwagon. . . so what?)
What Will Win: Gravity (Do you see how it looks in the moonlight?)
Best Adapted Screenplay
What I Want to Win: The Wolf of wall Street (Because reasons, that’s why. No seriously- Terence Winter from Boardwalk Empire, plus the hilarity)
What Will Win: Philomena (The movie based on a book based on a real true life story)
Best Original Screenplay
What I Want to Win: Her (A new take on life in the new world and how we need to find love)
What Will Win: Blue Jasmine (Oh look a Woody Allen movie. Ooh that’s innovating)
