One of our most anticipated movies this year is “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” David Fincher’s adaptation of the best-selling Swedish crime novel. We love the story and we love Fincher, so what more could we possibly ask for? Well, possibly one of the coolest and most original marketing campaigns yet!
According to /Film:
I received an e-mail today from a /film reader telling me to check out the websiteMouth-Taped-Shut.com. When you click the link you’ll be greeted by a Tumblr blog, which appears to be some fansite for David Fincher and/or The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I almost closed my web browser window before realizing that some of the content on the tumblr included images and video taken on the set of the film. Not the kind of set videos and photos that we’re used to posting — these appear to have been taken on closed sets, in the editing room, and in the production office by an insider. It seems as if the tumblr has been online for a couple weeks now (since August 20th 2011).
Now, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Sony Pictures is involved. But as /Film points out, you never know. It’s probably someone from the set who is “leaking” these images and videos, while updating the Tumblr blog with news articles involving The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Another thing to point out is that Fincher never liked the way movies are traditionally marketed. Meaning that something like this would be right up his alley. If he is truly the mastermind of this (which we are pretty sure that he is), then Fincher has proved to us again what a genius he is.

So what do you think of all this? Is it cool? Do you really think Fincher is behind all this? Let us know in the comments!
