The King is returning and we’re gonna need a bigger red carpet.
February of 2014 marks the 60th Anniversary of the King of the Monsters, and he’s come a long way since the original film in 1954.
Specifically since his first movie he’s grown about 100 whole meters in Warner Brothers’ and Legendary Pictures’ reboot of Godzilla, set to release on May 16th, 2014.
The film has been helmed by upcoming director, Gareth Edwards, the creator of the 2010 independent film ‘Monsters’, which features an outstanding display of on location cinematography for a first time director. Godzilla films were consistently made by Toho in Japan for 50 years until Godzilla: Final Wars in 2004, featuring one last all-star match-up of monsters for the sign off from his native country. He’s been lying dormant for nearly ten years.
The last time Godzilla got his own, Hollywood produced, film was in 1998 by Independence Day and every other generic disaster movie film director, Roland Emmerich, and is generally regarded as the worst possible interpretation of Godzilla america could have done. Fans are hopeful that in the “Post-Avatar” world of special effects, and after monster movies such as ‘Colverfield’ and ‘Pacific Rim’ being as big as cult hit movies can be, it’s finally time for him to start leveling things Stateside and being bad-ass while he does it.

The official trailer is available to view online now, and will being rolling on the properly proportionate silver screen in the reels for ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ this weekend.
