The Wachowskis have certainly come a long way since releasing their breakout movie, “The Matrix”. Having turned the Sci-Fi film world on its head has allowed the Wachowskis to continue to bring their brand of entertainment for the last decade-and-a-half. And fifteen years after after “The Matrix” the Wachowskis will be releasing their latest original input into the world of science fiction with “Jupiter Ascending”.
Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) is a mild-mannered, incredibly unlucky, and surprisingly attractive Russian janitor. Set in the distant future, the universe surrounding her is full of beings that have been genetically engineered and basically make humans the lowest part of the evolutionary totem pole. However, there’s something particular about Jupiter. It seems that her unlucky streak will continue, but only because of what her bloodline represents. When a genetically engineered ex-military hunter named Caine (Channing Tatum) is sent to Earth to track Jupiter down, she is informed that on the night she was born the stars pointed to an extraordinary event, and it turns out she has the same perfect genetic makeup as the Queen of the Universe. This revelation could possibly threaten the Queen’s reign, and, thus, it is to her benefit that Jupiter is eliminated.
The film also stars Sean Bean, James D’Arcy, and Eddie Redmayne and has a release date of July 25th, 2014.
Despite the flop-like nature of “The Matrix” sequels and an uneven showing with “Cloud Atlas”, it’s pretty plain to see that the Wachowskis have an eye for science fiction, and this looks like it could be a lot of fun. You can check out the trailer right here:
