Another dazzling film festival in Cannes, France has come and gone. Today, the film fest wrapped up with its annual awards ceremony. This year, the Cannes juries were made up of very notable names in Hollywood and film, including Steven Spielberg, Nicole Kidman, Ang Lee, Lynne Ramsay, Zhang Ziyi, Jane Campion, Christoph Waltz and many more. After watching all the official selections, they honored the best films of the festival.
Lots of buzz has been surrounding many films that premiered at Cannes the past couple weeks. Starring Léa Seydoux (Mission Impossible 4) and Adele Exarchopoulos and directed by Abdellatif Kechiche, Blue Is The Warmest Color earned a ton of praise and attention for his striking and excellent filmmaking and reportedly explicit sex scenes between the two lead actresses. It was predicted to be one of a few films to win the Palme d’Or, the top prize, at the festival, and it did. Other films that received awards were the Coen Brothers‘ Inside Llewyn Davis, which nabbed the runner-up Grand Prix award. Best Director was awarded to Amat Escalante for his Mexican drug trade film, Heli. Berenice Bejo (The Past) and Bruce Dern (Alexander Payne’s Nebraska) won the best acting prizes for their films.
