During a live-streamed event this morning, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced the 2017 Oscar nominations with the help of past Oscar nominated talents Demian Bichir, Dustin Lance Black, Glenn Close, Guillermo del Toro, Marcia Gay Harden, Terrence Howard, Jennifer Hudson, Brie Larson, Jason Reitman, Gabourey Sidibe, and Ken Watanabe.
La La Land leads the race with 14 nominations, but is closely followed by other frontrunners Moonlight, Arrival and Manchester by the Sea. This year’s nominations include a ground-breaking and important record for the most nominated black actors ever with 6 nominations coming in for Denzel Washington (Fences), Viola Davis (Fences), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Ruth Negga (Loving), and Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures).
The 89th annual Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and air live on ABC on February 26, 2017. Check out the complete list of nominations below.
