It was an exciting year at the annual Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Touting a film slate of interesting, diverse and innovative filmmakers, it was a fantastic time to be in the city.
Yet, the festivities have run their course, and as of yesterday the official winners have been announced for this year’s competition.
The Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature : The Rocket Directed By: Kim Mordaunt
Set against the rural Laos, the drama tells the story of ten-year-old Athlo, who fights against the destination his life has set before him. Along with his father, they search for a new home and along the way come across a rocket festival, offering a chance for a new life.
Special Jury Mention: Stand Clear of the Closing Door Directed By Sam Fleischner
Autistic teen Ricky lives in Far Rockaway, Queens and must deal with the everyday troubles of high school and economic strife at home. After being reprimanded for skipping a class, he embarks on a day’s long adventure underground in the Subway.
