We’re big fans of Veronica Roth’s Divergent series and are so excited for the movie! Last week, Roth announced the title of the third and final book in the Divergent trilogy, Allegiant. Today, Entertainment Weekly gave us our first look at the Divergent movie.
Roth blogged about her set visit, in which she saw the knife-throwing scene, so it’s no surprise that our first look at Shailene Woodley as Tris Prior is this one. Woodley definitely looks the part; she looks good in Tris’ blonde hair and I can’t wait to see more from the movie and the other cast members. Woodley commented to EW on her cast members, “It’s a good group,” she says. “We’re hanging out on weekends, celebrating birthdays. Everyone just wants to get to know one another. It’s rare to get a big group together and not have any conflicts. It’s really kind of amazing.”
In case you aren’t familiar with the bestselling YA book, Divergent is a thrilling adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Divergent was written by Veronica Roth, and you can check out our book reviews of both Divergent and Insurgent by clicking on the titles. The film is being directed by Neil Burger (Limitless) from a script by Vanessa Taylor (Game of Thrones). The original draft of the script was written by Evan Daugherty (Snow White & the Huntsman). Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing the project via their Red Wagon Entertainment banner along with Pouya Shahbazian. Red Wagon’s Rachel Shane is executive producing, alongside John J. Kelly.
Divergent is now filming in Chicago. It’s expected to release in theaters Friday, March 21, 2014.
